Some of you probably know I have mixed opinions about "retouching," and on the subject here's a great little short film from Dove about what goes into creating the pictures you see in magazines and on billboards. campaignforrealbeauty.com

Goodbye Glory

From a press kit shoot with a great Toronto band called Goodbye Glory last weekend. I went to their show at MCT on Wednesday and they dropped a note-perfect cover of Billie Jean. Sick!

I came all the way from Vancouver and all I got was this lousy Tshirt

My friend Trevor who is also a photographer is here from Vancouver for a couple of weeks, and is staying with me in the wall-less squatter reno hell that is my new house. On top of that the poor guy agreed to assist me on a band shoot on the weekend, and was forced to endure all sorts of further indignities, like getting me coffee, holding reflectors, and standing-in while I blocked the pictures. Luckily Trevor is a good sport / used to my brooding artistic temperment. This is a picture of him in a shirt I made for him, and a picture of him with scream-queen actress Jessica Panetta.

Canada's next top photographer

So last week I shot a TV pilot which followed me and two other photographers around for three days as we each put together a picture for Canadian fashion icon Wayne Clarke with basically zero time and zero budget. It was insane. It was also a blast though, by and large.
We all submitted three pictures to Wayne Clarke and his people, and surprise! Yours truly won. Here are the three images I submitted. Amazing contributions were made to these shots by Robin Buss my model from B&M, my makeup artist Sonilda Teague, Justin from Robin Barker hair salon in Yorkville (not to mention Robin himself, who saved my ass with a location at the last minute after three had fallen through), David from Town Grill, Bob, Daniel, Ron and especially Paul Mineo from The Rose Group, and of course Pikto.

The reno

Why has your photographer been so hard to reach the last couple of weeks? Why has he been taking an unusually long time to return emails and phonecalls? Well, your photographer decided that this was a good time to buy a house -- a fixer-upper, as they like to say. It turns out that fixing up a fixer-upper takes a little more time than your photographer has available. Your photographer is extremely stressed out.
